Sierra

Thanks so much for your prayers yesterday, we felt them!

Sierra has Interstitial Cystitis, a long name for a disease that affects the bladder. It's called a "disease" so I use that term but don't really like it! At Sierra's age, it is curable with a couple of years of medication. Her symptom is mainly incontinence during sleep. It has gotten worse the past year and a half and has recently happened a few times during the day. She has very little pain with it, which is a blessing as some people do. To alleviate the symptoms, we could put her on a special diet. We haven't decided yet, because it is very strict. We'll talk to Sierra about it. Not being on the diet won't make her condition worse.

The surgical center at Sanford is wonderful. They were so great with Sierra. Another added bonus, an extended cousin of mine (who's also adopted a son internationally) was her nurse! That was so nice and she did a great job. Thanks, Julie!

Sierra did well until she had to put on the gown. At that time she was quite upset, so they gave her some "happy medicine." Soon we had a little drunk on our hands...stumbling over her words and feet, and at times giggling! But she was alot more content, and we were happy about that. They took her to surgery in a little red wagon, and because of her "happy" medicine, she didn't even notice when the nurse took mom's job of pulling the wagon.

She came back pretty upset, but came out of the anesthesia well. "Going potty" was not fun, but after medicine to calm down her bladder, things got better. So well in fact, that the 3 of us went to Perkins for lunch. Thanks again for your prayers!! God Bless!

Glad to hear that things went well. Praying the meds do their thing and Sierra doesn't have to do anything like this again! It's the PITS!!!
