Crop Dusters
I mentioned in an earlier post that aphids are really bad in soybeans this year. Generally you need to spray if you have about 250 aphids per plant or there will be high damage to the plant and subsequently, the yield. This year on some fields they are estimating up to 5,000 aphids per plant.
Well, once the beans get to a certain height, you really don't want to spray them the traditional way...you end up
mowing down a lot of beans with tires. So how are they applied? With an airplane of course!
Today Tye got to get up and close to one of the crop dusters. How fun! He was very pumped. He's been talking about it for days. He even got to sit in the cockpit!
Brandy isn't flying the planes, obviously, but he's helping supply the insecticide that they're putting on. By
Saturday they should have 4 planes (hopefully) in the air, so it's a lot of work to keep them mapped out and properly loaded.
However...he has been fixing on one of the planes! And no, he isn't an airplane mechanic! Apparently it's something simple and not life threatening. But he said it was kinda fun to work on an airplane. Not something he gets to do every day, that's for sure.

Yes, I've been seeing the crop dusters. We're at my parents right now and they've been flying over the house and scaring me half to death! I'm getting used to it now :)
Tye - you look so cool! Awesome pictures!
What a neat experience to sit in the plane!
